Upside Pay was Upside’s entry point into the payments sphere. It doubled our restaurant footprint, enabled users to pay directly with the app, and provided users with instant cash back for the first time in the app’s history.

In beta testing, Upside Pay was met with a lot of confusion. Users assumed it was similar to traditional transaction methods of the app, weren’t reading the directions, and were disappointed when met with failed transactions. We worked with UX research to come up with a simplified transaction flow that made the steps clearer to users — now called Pay with app.

Upside rebrand

In 2023, Upside underwent a full rebrand — including a new look and feel as well as a new verbal identity. Upside became a trusted financial partner. Designs became cleaner and copy took on a smart wit.
